Nursing Interventions for Bulimic Individual

  1. Often coexisting disorders complicate the clinical picture (depression, substance use, personality disorders), and these might warrant additional psychotherapy (psycho-dynamic, interpersonal, family therapy).
  2. Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy has been shown to be useful.
  3. Group therapy with other individuals suffering from bulimia is often part of successful therapy.
  4. Because anxiety and feelings of stress often precede bingeing, alternative ways of dealing with anxiety and alternative coping strategies to lessen anxiety are useful tools.
  5. Family therapy is helpful and encouraged.
