Frustration

A state which results if the stress becomes sufficiently great and reaches a point above the threshold of an individual. Frustration is a common emotional response to opposition. Related to anger and disappointment, it arises from the perceived resistance to the fulfillment of individual will.

MAJOR RESPONSES TO FRUSTRATION:

FIXATION – A response which is strong and persistent and which cannot be changed by usual methods of retraining.
AGGRESSION – A response which represents some form of attack and is in general destructive. There are two types of aggression namely passive and active aggression.
REGRESSION – use of response which were effective at an earlier age has been discarded but which are adopted in an attempt to cope with the existing situation.
RESIGNATION – An act of giving up or withdrawing and coping from reality.
