1. Rooting – seen when cheek is stroked and newborn responds with a turn of the head toward the touch
2. Sucking – well-developed at birth
3. Grasp – pressure on palms of the hands and sole of foot causes flexion of fingers or toes
4. Moro/Startle – immediate, bilateral symmetric response to sudden jarring or loud sound; disappears by 6 months
5. Babinski – when lateral surface of foot is stroked the toes flare; disappears at 3 months
6. Tonic neck/Fencing reflex- when newborn lies on the back with head turned to one side, the arm and leg on the same side are extended and the opposite arm is flexed; disappears on 3-4 moths of age
