FOCUS OF NURSING

 The old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” is vital to living a healthy life.

  1. Health Promotion - has been defined by the World Health Organization's 2005 Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World as "the process of enabling people to increase control over their health and its determinants, and thereby improve their health". The primary means of health promotion occur through developing healthy public policy that addresses the prerequisities of health such as income, housing, food security, employment, and quality working conditions. Health promotion means helping people develop resources to maintain or enhance their health or well-being. The focus of health promotion is "directed toward maintaining or improving the general health of individuals, families and communities."
  2. Health Maintenance - Health maintenance nursing activities are those actions that help clients to maintain their health status.Maintaining good health means being informed about the health issues that may affect you.
  3. Health Restoration - Health restoration means helping people helping people to improve health following health problems or illness.
  4. Care of the Dying - This area of nursing practice involves comforting and caring for people of all ages while they are dying.
